The Laboratory of Human Milk and Lactation Research is an interdisciplinary team of researchers and healthcare professionals dedicated to the study of human milk, lactation physiology and pathology, and infant nutrition, with a particular focus on preterm infants and medically vulnerable children. The team includes biologists, dietitians, midwives, medical students, and doctoral candidates.
The Laboratory’s mission is to advance scientific research on breastfeeding and human milk, while supporting the implementation of modern standards of nutritional care for newborns and preterm infants. The team conducts research projects on a wide range of topics, including human milk composition, lactation, human milk banking, breastfeeding promotion, and nutritional therapy for the youngest patients.
The Laboratory is also actively involved in education and professional training, organizing internships and study visits for specialists from Poland and abroad. The laboratory, located within the Regional Human Milk Bank, serves both as a reference center for human milk composition analysis and as a model human milk bank facility in Poland.

We are pleased to announce that two members of the Human Milk and Lactation Research Laboratory have been awarded funding for their research projects through internal grant competitions of the Medical University of Warsaw.
Human milk is a unique food that not only provides infants with all the essential nutrients they need, but also contains hormones, antibodies, and numerous other bioactive compounds that support the development of the brain, immune system, and metabolism.
