The Laboratory of Human Milk and Lactation Research is an interdisciplinary team of researchers and healthcare professionals dedicated to the study of human milk, the physiology and pathology of lactation, and infant nutrition, with a particular focus on preterm infants and vulnerable newborns. The team comprises biologists, dietitians, midwives, medical students, and doctoral candidates from various health-related disciplines.
The Laboratory’s mission is to advance scientific research on breastfeeding and human milk while supporting the implementation of evidence-based nutritional care standards for newborns and preterm infants. The team conducts a wide range of research projects addressing, among others, human milk composition, lactation, human milk banking, breastfeeding promotion, and nutritional therapy for the youngest patients.
The Laboratory is also actively involved in education and professional training, offering internships, placements, and study visits for specialists from Poland and abroad. The laboratory operating within the Regional Human Milk Bank serves as a national reference centre for human milk composition analysis and as a model human milk bank facility in Poland.
